Allied Health students help at elementary vision and hearing screenings

Before Fall Break, Allied Health teachers Mrs. Keehn and Mrs. Woods took some selected Allied Health students to Brooks and Overdale Elementary schools to assist them with their schoolwide vision and hearing screenings. Students learned how to use Snellen eye charts, audiometers, and visual acuity equipment in one day, as well as learning the charting system for recording results.

Students screened over 200 elementary students and represented NBHS with outstanding professionalism.

The Allied Health Pathway helps prepare students for a future in healthcare. Students learn valuable “head knowledge” while also having the opportunity to work on employability skills, such as communication. Students also learn medical skills such as CPR and First Aid, basic vital signs such as obtaining temperatures, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and some physical therapy techniques.
