Maryville Elementary School Happiness Quilt Seen by Thousands at Kentucky State Fair

Maryville Elementary School Happiness Quilt

Among the many attractions at the Kentucky State Fair was a happiness quilt created by Maryville Elementary School counseling students.

“It’s an incredible piece,” lauded Counselor Kaet Barron as the quilt was put on display in the East Hall of the South Wing.

Entered into the Amateur Group Story Quilt, each of Barron’s counseling kids designed a quilt piece that reminded them of happiness.

“One girl drew a picture of a beach vacation before her parents were divorced,” Barron said. “Some wrote quotes that reminded them to be happy. Others drew things or items that made them happy. One little boy drew his dog and pillows because he loves pillow fights.”

All students who drew a square were given a free fair admission ticket.

Barron is proud that the happiness quilt is among the variety of offerings that signify a classic state fair atmosphere (arts, crafts, animals, rides, and of course, the food).

Plus, she hoped fair visitors spend a few extra moments in appreciation of the work behind each quilt piece.

“The idea is that every time counseling students saw the quilt hanging up they would feel some happiness and joy,” she said.
