Nichols Elementary School Students Recognized on Posters

Nichols PEP Students

Nichols Elementary School fifth grade students Bella Connor, Rylee Carr, Gracie May and Wyatt Yates were selected to appear on Preparing Early Partner (PEP) posters.

Each youth read their pledge to be drug free during a poster unveiling ceremony held during the school’s fifth grade sendoff.

Posters will appear at Bulllitt Lick Middle School where the students will begin this fall as well as Bullitt Central High School.

Students autographed their poster for proud family and friends after the unveiling.

Family Resource Center Coordinator Traci Gould explained staff members nominate fourth or fifth graders based on criteria which includes positive attitude/effort/good citizenship; pledge to be drug free (verbally); grades; positive role model to other students and no discipline issues

“If students accept the nomination, they secure three references and write a one-page essay about being a role model,” Gould explained. “Then, they interview with a panel of adults, and answer questions about themselves.”

Once selected for inclusion on a poster, Gould stages them with their favorite hobby, something special in life or what they aspire to be, and takes numerous photographs. She selects the image which best conveys the student.

A+ Signs and Designs creates the graphic design of the posters and prints them. During the unveiling ceremony, each youth read why it is important to be drug free before seeing their poster the first time.

Each poster was greeted by applause from a proud audience of family members.

Students enjoyed a reception where they used markers to autograph their posters.

Gould was all smiles as she watched the happy interaction.

“This is one of my favorite programs of the year!” she said.
